Asian companies are interested in setting up in Juárez

JUAREZ – The tariff war between the United States and China as well as the changes in the rules of origin of the USMCA awakened the interest of Asian companies to set up operations in Ciudad Juarez.

Leonel Chavira, director of Industry at the Secretariat of Innovation and Economic Development (SIDE), said that there are at least four companies that do not yet have a presence in the locality, but are analyzing moving their operations to this border for both reasons.

“There is a lot of potential due to the commercial problems between China and the United States and also with the entry of the USMCA, which calls for greater integration between the three countries,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that two of these interested companies are Chinese and two Taiwanese, which belong to the electronics sector.

“Many Asian countries are looking to relocate their plants to Mexico, with more focus on the border, in this case Juarez, where there is already the presence of Taiwanese companies, which although they are not linked to the automotive sector, we have noticed their interest in establishing themselves in the state,” he said.

However, talks are still underway with the directors of these companies to convince them to come to the city, so the names cannot be disclosed.
