The World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Baja California 2025 international educational robotics competition will take place on September 19 and 20 at the Baja California Center in Rosarito. The event will be made possible thanks to a collaboration agreement signed between the Ministry of Economy and Innovation (SEI) and Geeks Academy.
According to the SEI, the objective is to strengthen scientific and technological vocations in students between the ages of 5 and 22, as well as to strengthen ties with the education sector. The agreement was signed by representatives of the organization Educación Disruptiva A.C., headed by Gustavo Fernández de León, as part of a joint effort between the government and civil society.
Paulina Bermúdez Zamudio, general director of Geeks Academy, said that this edition of the WRO seeks to foster skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals promoted by the UN. More than 380 students from different states across the country are expected to participate.
The competition will include categories such as RobotStarter Kids, UARO—for preschool and lower elementary school—and Future Engineers. Geeks Academy, based in Tijuana, is an organization focused on teaching STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics), with programs ranging from robotics and programming to aerospace engineering.
