BAJA CALIFORNIA – According to results published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Baja California’s Gross State Domestic Product (GDP) reached US$47.1 million.
Baja California’s Governor, Marina del Pila Avila Olmeda pointed out that these figures consolidate the state as one of the most important economies in Mexico.
The GDPE is the total value of everything produced and sold in a state during a year, according to INEGI, it is a way to measure how big and important the economy is, and it works to evaluate the dynamics and compare performance between entities.
“With an annual growth of 3.5 percent, Baja California ranked seventh among the states that contributed the most to the National GDP. This result reflects the joint effort between the government, companies and citizens that drive the development of the state,” said Avila.
According to INEGI data corresponding to 2023, the secondary sector, which represents 43.5 percent of Baja California’s economy, registered the highest growth, with an increase of 4.8 percent.
This advance was mainly due to construction, which grew 26.8 percent, while mining and manufacturing also showed increases of 25.1 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively.
The tertiary sector, which contributes 47.4 percent of the state’s economy, grew by 1.9 percent. Within this sector, the media and commerce stood out, with increases of 7.8 percent and 4.3 percent, respectively.
With these results, Baja California is positioned among the most active economies in the country. The growth registered highlights the importance of its key sectors and establishes solid foundations for continued sustained development in the coming years.
