MEXICO – Manufacturing and maquiladora companies in Tijuana, Mexicali and Ciudad Juarez will begin hiring migrants from next week, stated Luis Aguirre Lang, president of the National Council of Maquiladora Industry and Export Manufacturing (Index).
“We are going to start a pilot test in three cities, Tijuana, Mexicali and Ciudad Juárez, which will be applied in the next few days,” pointed out Aguirre Lang.
The executive explained that manufacturing companies in these three cities will organize employment modules, in conjunction with the National Institute of Migration, Infonavit and other government agencies, where job openings will be announced.
“We are finishing the evaluation of available job openings in these first three cities and reviewing the profiles of the talent demands that are being required in order to be able to start next week with these employment modules,” he explained.
The measure, which will be implemented through an agreement with the maquiladora industry, seeks to relieve the overcrowded shelters on the border and comes in the middle of a growing xenophobia.
