BROWNSVILLE – The City of Brownsville has notified residents of the possibility of a test launch of the seventh SpaceX spacecraft flight next Monday, January 13.
According to the City Council, the time window for this event is scheduled between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM Central Standard Time (CST).
During the launch, nearby communities, such as South Padre Island, Port Isabel and Brownsville itself, may hear sonic booms. These sounds, which resemble distant explosions, are caused by the deceleration of the spacecraft as it re-enters the atmosphere from supersonic speeds.
Although impressive, sonic booms are normal for this type of operation and do not pose a direct risk to residents.
To ensure the community is aware of this event and future launches, the City of Brownsville encourages residents to sign up for its Text Alerts system. This service provides real-time updates, including relevant information about SpaceX operations and other important notices issued by the city.
Registration is quick and easy, allowing citizens to receive information directly on their mobile devices. This tool is especially useful for staying prepared for events that may have a local impact, such as traffic changes, emergency operations or SpaceX-related activities.
SpaceX continues to position itself as a key player in space development from its base in Boca Chica, which has brought greater visibility and economic impact to the region. However, this growth also brings challenges to the community, such as loud noise or modifications to the local environment.
With this test launch, the company is moving forward with its space exploration program, while the City of Brownsville is working to ensure that its residents are properly informed and prepared for potential side effects.
