CFE and maquiladora industry seek to guarantee electricity supply in Juárez

The Governor’s Office in Ciudad Juárez set up a meeting between executives from the Toro Company and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to facilitate the electricity supply needed for an industrial expansion project in the region.

The manufacturing company is looking to move 15 production lines from Monterrey and Australia to its plant in Ciudad Juárez. If the operation goes ahead, it is estimated that between 300 and 350 direct jobs will be created in the first stage.

Carlos Ernesto Ortiz Villegas, representative of the State Government in Juárez, explained that the company’s formal request was to establish a link with the CFE to define the energy requirements and ensure the viability of the project. He noted that negotiations are already well advanced with both the Federal Electricity Commission and the State Energy Commission.

Pedro Chavira, head of Government Relations at Toro Company, said that the state government’s support seeks to facilitate the scheduling of electricity consumption in view of the growing demand that the new operation will entail.

The expansion of Toro Company is part of a strategy to strengthen the local manufacturing industry, in a context of industrial process relocation. If the projected growth continues, the firm expects to double or even triple its workforce in future phases.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the State Energy Development Agency (AEDE), the Secretariat of Innovation and Economic Development (SIDE), and technical staff from the company.
