During a meeting in Mexico City, the governor of Chihuahua, Javier Corral, explained to representatives of the Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) his intentions to set up a new corridor for the installation of companies in the sector and, especially, to attract an automotive company that manufactures electric cars.
“We are making an effort in a commitment to the innovation and development of a research center, we are working alongside universities and training centers,” Corral commented. He added that they seek to offer the competitiveness of the state’s trained workforce and the connectivity it has with both the rest of Mexico and the United States.
The new corridor would be near Ciudad Juarez and it would have an extension of 500 hectares. “The future is in electric cars. California buys 35% of electric/hybrid cars sold in the United States,” said a government presentation.
Sergio Mendoza, president of the Cluster Automotriz de Chihuahua, pointed out that the government can offer companies logistical incentives such as “payroll taxes, predial and funds for staff training.” According to the executive, they have already talked to companies in Asia and Europe about the idea of adopting a company that produces electric vehicles.
