Chihuahua consolidates its position as national leader in exports

CHIHUAHUA – The state of Chihuahua culminated 2023 as the state with the highest contribution to the total value of exports nationwide, reaching almost US$70 billion, according to figures from the Center for Economic and Social Information, with data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

According to the latest update, the state ranked as the fifth with the highest foreign direct investment with US$1.9 billion, the first with the lowest rate of labor informality with 34.4 percent and in third place in the accumulated in the manufacturing sector, reaching the sum of US$1.8 billion.

During the first quarter of last year, it registered more than US$16.8 billion in exports, being the state with the highest percentage participation in the country, reaching 13.3 percent.

In the second quarter, the value of exports in the different items exceeded the previous report, with US$18.7 billion.

In the July-September quarter of last year, the figure exceeded US$16.3 million, while in the fourth quarter of 2023, Chihuahua exceeded US$18 million in the value of its exports, which translated into a total sum of US$69.9 million annually.

With these figures, the entity consolidates its position as the country’s main export platform, with a 13 percent share of the national figure, as of the fourth quarter of 2023.

The top 5 in this category are completed by the states of Coahuila, Nuevo León, Baja California and Guanajuato, which together with Chihuahua, account for 53.2 percent of Mexico’s total exports.
