Chihuahua Implements Streamlined Data System for Mining Operations

The Chihuahua Ministry of Innovation and Economic Development (SIDE) and Minera San Julián have formalized an agreement to establish a unified framework for managing information and procedures related to mining activities in the state.

The agreement, signed by executives from Fresnillo PLC and Industrias Peñoles, aims to consolidate processes that were previously handled separately across different government departments. Mining operations require a constant flow of permits, technical reports, compliance documents, and data updates, which this new system is designed to organize efficiently.

According to the agency, the pact does not involve new capital investments. Instead, it focuses on optimizing the delivery and verification of information for the state mining sector registry. This registry is a key tool for monitoring activity in municipalities with mining presence.

Fresnillo PLC, one of the companies with the largest operational footprint in Chihuahua, primarily extracts silver and gold. Its ongoing activities involving exploration, production, and logistics necessitate regular interaction with state authorities.

With the new system, both the company and SIDE will follow a defined protocol for updating files, processing paperwork, and reviewing technical documentation. The ministry indicated that this will enable more transparent oversight of active projects and their corresponding administrative requirements.
