CHIHUAHUA – The state of Chihuahua has three reserves of oil and shale gas, located 500 meters and up to 4 kilometers deep between Ojinaga and Coyame, Ojinaga and Aldama, and near Villa Ahumada.
Jorge Lopez Uranga, director of Energy of Secretaría de Innovación y Desarrollo Económico of Chihuahua, stated that in the state of Texas, the basin of oil and gas shale called Waha, the largest reserve in the United States is exploited commercially.
Large quantities of oil and natural gas are obtained from that region through the horizontal fracking system; natural gas is exported in large quantities to Mexico and other parts of the United States.
He added that due to the geographic proximity between Texas and Chihuahua, energy potential of the entity can be visualized.
