Chihuahua was highlighted as a state with strategic potential in the semiconductor industry during the recent International Semiconductor Forum, organized with the participation of the Secretariat of Innovation and Economic Development (SIDE) and the Center for Research in Advanced Materials (CIMAV).
The forum provided an opportunity to analyze the state’s competitive advantages, which include more than 50 years of manufacturing experience and the presence of the Taiwanese cluster in Ciudad Juárez, involved in the production of state-of-the-art servers for artificial intelligence, used by companies such as Meta, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon.
According to data presented, the semiconductor industry currently generates 25,000 direct jobs in Chihuahua and is considered a key sector for the state’s technological and economic development. During the event, initiatives aimed at strengthening the local ecosystem were highlighted, including international training programs for teachers and students in Texas and Taiwan, participation in specialized fairs such as Semicon West 2025, and the implementation of a specialized semiconductor laboratory that will benefit more than 7,000 STEM students.
The forum also featured the participation of CIMAV researchers and representatives from the Ministry of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation, who discussed issues related to technology transfer, talent development, and the creation of specialized infrastructure in the region.
Through these actions, Chihuahua seeks to consolidate itself as a hub of innovation in semiconductors, promoting collaboration between academic institutions, the private sector, and research organizations, and strengthening the training of new professionals to respond to the demands of an industry with a growing global presence.
