CIUDAD JUAREZ – The maquiladora industry in Ciudad Juárez hasn’t had a single labor problem in contrast to the crisis that companies in the Matamoros border are experiencing due to the strikes, because in Juarez, the maquila is at the forefront and control of the unions is almost null, said Arnulfo Castro Münive, former president of Index-Amac.
On the other hand, lawyer Susana Prieto Terrazas mentions that directors of big companies threaten their workers to inhibit the emergence of a struggle for their wages and benefits as happened in Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
Castro Münive assured that labor peace in the Juarez maquiladora sector is due to the fact that the maquiladora is ahead in every sense throughout the country, and also the Juarez border is considered an icon of the development of this industry. He stated as well that the plants of transnational corporations, established in Ciudad Juarez, do many things for people in terms of labor relations.
