MESA, AZ – Commercial Metals Company (CMC) officially opened its new micro-factory in Mesa, Arizona, which is expected to employ approximately 185 people and reach an estimated annual rated capacity of 500,000 tons, including 150,000 tons of commercial product.
The facility, called Steel Arizona 2, is CMC’s third micro mill and the first in the world to produce rebar and merchant bar quality (MBQ) products through a continuous production process.
“We are very proud to formally open our new state-of-the-art micro steel mill in Mesa, Arizona,” said Peter Matt, CMC president and CEO. “We look forward to providing both our existing and new customers with sustainably manufactured products combined with CMC’s excellent service.”
CMC is a provider of innovative solutions that help build a stronger, safer and more sustainable world. Through an extensive manufacturing network located primarily in the United States and Central Europe, it provides products and technologies to meet the critical reinforcement needs of the global construction industry.
The microfactory will make CMC a coast-to-coast MBQ manufacturer, the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) detailed.
“CMC’s expansion builds on the company’s existing presence in Arizona while creating nearly two hundred new jobs. We are grateful to CMC for its continued commitment to Arizona and look forward to supporting CMC’s success in Mesa,” said Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the ACA.
