Coahuila Seeks German Technology

The state of Coahuila has begun negotiations with German companies to incorporate advanced technology into hydraulic fracturing projects, aiming to unlock its natural gas potential through more sustainable practices.

During a recent European tour, state officials met with at least eight firms specializing in equipment and solutions for Hydraulic fracturing, focusing on next-generation technologies designed to reduce environmental impact.

The discussions are centered on forming technological partnerships that would enable Coahuila to better utilize its energy resources, particularly in light of a potential federal push to develop unconventional gas reserves. Key priorities include implementing more efficient and environmentally responsible methods, such as systems that optimize water usage and minimize ecological risks.

Beyond the energy sector, the talks are also expected to attract investments linked to the steel industry, particularly in the municipality of Ramos Arizpe, as part of broader international cooperation efforts.

This initiative is part of a wider strategy to strengthen Coahuila’s industrial competitiveness by integrating technological innovation and global partnerships. The adoption of advanced hydraulic fracturing techniques could position the state as a significant player in Mexico’s natural gas production.

However, the development of these projects will largely depend on federal government decisions regarding regulatory frameworks, investment models, and the role of public and private companies in the energy sector.

The effort also takes place within a broader national debate over fracking, where the main challenge will be balancing energy development with environmental protection and responsible water management.
