Dental school receives US$25,000 grant

TEXAS – With the goal of developing future border dentists in and out of the classroom, the president of the New Mexico Dental Association announced a US$25,000 personal donation to the Hunt School of Dental Medicine.

Dental physician, Kimberly Martin, presented the gift in honor of her sons (Jackson and Maeson) during a ceremony at the Texas Tech Oral Health Clinic.

The grant will go to the Dental Excellence Fund that supports dental student education.

“I am honored to make a donation to the dental school with their names on it not only to mark our contribution, but also to recognize all the other students who might be juggling families, spouses, aging parents or just trying to balance their lives in general,” Dr. Martin said in a letter to her children, which was read at the ceremony.

Martin is a longtime dentist in the Las Cruces area and currently sees patients at University Family Dental, where her niece, Patricia Martin, also practices.

In addition to her role as president of the New Mexico Dental Association, she is a member of the New Mexico COVID-19 Dental Advisory Team and a former member of the New Mexico Dental Health Care Board.
