U.S. – With the goal of putting fewer firearms on the streets at risk of causing harm to community residents, the DeSoto Police Department launches the Gun and Ammunition Exchange Program for a $ 100 Gift Card .
Through flyers issued by the Police Department located in Dallas County Texas, it was announced that this program will be in effect until July 31 and consists of four simple steps for the exchange to take place.
This initiative “is to guarantee security within our communities by having a safe place for citizens to hand over firearms and ammunition that they do not want,” the letter mentions.
The program is aimed at avoiding injuries or major consequences caused by firearms, for this reason the methodology for the delivery of pistols and ammunition will be easy and simple.
The DeSoto Police Department recommends that when you go to drop off your weapons, they must be unloaded, if transported in the vehicle, they must go in the trunk or the platform box of the pickup.
If it is a truck, the weapon must go in the back seat, this in a box and up to the last seat of the vehicle.
In the case of ammunition exchange, they must not be inside a weapon and will have to be transported in a box or bag separate from the weapon, but in case they do not know how to unload it or do not know if the pistol is loaded, they must immediately notify the official as soon as they come to carry out the procedure.
If you are unable to carry your pistol or ammunition, you can ask the Police Department for help, if you are a DeSoto resident.
The police do not require the person to present identification, they just hand over and issue the $ 100 card.
This is a joint program between the DeSoto Police Department, Community Missionary Baptist Church, and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.
The exchange will take place from 10 a.m. at 3 p.m. at DeSoto Town Center, 211 E. Pleasant Run Road.
While some cities make arms exchanges, in others the legislatures are modified so that their owners pay insurance, such is the case of the city of San José, California.
In San José, it has not yet been determined what the cost of the insurance will be, but it is expected that once this measure is approved, the amount collected will be used to provide financial coverage for the costs of police response, ambulance transportation and medical treatment of bullet victims.
Through a preliminary report, which was given before the vote on this measure, it was determined that homicides, suicides and other incidents with firearms cost the city of San José an amount of approximately US $ 63 million per year.
