EL PASO, TX – The city of El Paso announced that its International Airport has received a US$10.6 million grant under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act’s Round 8 Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) for Fiscal Year 2024.
The funding is part of a US$427 million funding initiative by the Biden-Harris Administration to improve airport infrastructure across the country.
The grant will fund the rehabilitation of ELP’s general aviation (GA) apron pavement. The project will further improve safety and efficiency for airport users and aircraft by improving drainage, providing more reliable pavement, and reducing the potential for foreign object debris (FOD).
The project will be implemented in three phases, with construction of the first phase expected to begin in fiscal year 2025. The first phase will rehabilitate approximately 140 thousand square yards of pavement around the taxiway and apron areas.
In addition, the grant will contribute to the rehabilitation of the ELP’s general aviation (GA) apron pavement, which, although maintained in good condition, has not undergone major repairs in more than 30 years.
“We are delighted to receive this vital grant that will ensure that El Paso International Airport continues to meet the highest standards of safety and efficiency,” said Mayor Oscar Leeser.
“As the only member of Congress from our region of Texas to vote in favor of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, I am thrilled with this funding for critical airport improvements,” said Congresswoman Veronica Escobar.
