EL PASO, TX – The City of El Paso, in partnership with Cisco, launched a new portal that will serve as a one-stop shop for the centralized delivery of social services.
El Paso Helps will allow citizens in need to access simple and effective community resources, putting them in direct contact with agents and a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week street outreach service.
According to the City Council, one of the biggest challenges facing people in crisis or homelessness is the inability to easily access and navigate resources to meet their basic needs.
The new portal is designed to help people quickly and easily identify local resources. Individuals can visit www.ElPasoHelps.org, select a category of need to then be contacted with a live agent who will offer assistance in housing placement, emergency shelter.
The street outreach service will also be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at (915) 298-1115. In addition, the live help portal connects vulnerable populations with agencies providing assistance.
Current assistance includes teams providing 24/7 relief to people experiencing homelessness; temporary emergency shelter through a new Welcome Center; food, safe place and COVID-19 assistance; permanent housing options through Rapid Rehousing; as well as access to mental health counseling, addiction services and veteran care.
“The City of El Paso is at its best when collaborating with partners in search of innovative solutions to support some of the most vulnerable members of our community and address our homeless and crisis population,” said Mayor Oscar Leeser.
“By leveraging Webex by Cisco, members of the El Paso community can now virtually connect on video with live help, enabling a better user experience in navigating government and social services,” said Gary DePreta, vice president of State, Local Government and Education at Cisco.
The city also launched the Delta Welcome Center during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide temporary shelter to more than 5,000 people in two years. Now, El Paso is building on this progress to offer longer-term solutions for community members by leveraging American Recovery Plan funding to increase access and services for residents experiencing or at risk of homelessness, as outlined in the City’s Strategic Plan.
