Seven organizations across El Paso and West Texas have been granted a total of US$2.4 million by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) to provide critical services to veterans and their families. The funding is expected to benefit more than 2,160 veterans across a 28-county region.
The grants were formally presented at the El Paso County Courthouse on Tuesday. Proyecto Amistad received a combined US$300,000, with US$200,000 allocated for financial assistance and US$100,000 for clinical counseling. The Salvation Army of El Paso was awarded US$150,000 to support its services for homeless veterans.
Meanwhile, the El Paso Children’s Crisis Center received US$235,000 to provide support services. The City of El Paso was granted US$120,000 for transportation, and El Paso County received a total of US$685,000 to bolster financial assistance programs and strengthen its Veterans Treatment Court.
In Jeff Davis County, resources totaling US$695,000 were awarded for financial assistance and the Texas Housing for Heroes program. The YWCA El Paso del Norte Region also received significant support, with a US$250,000 grant for veteran support services.
According to the TVC, these funds are designated for programs offering emergency financial aid, transportation, legal services, family support, housing modifications, and rent or mortgage assistance. The Veterans Assistance Fund is financed primarily by proceeds from the Texas Lottery, as well as through public donations made when registering a vehicle or applying for hunting and fishing licenses.
This local distribution is part of a larger statewide effort. In May, the TVC announced a record US$46.3 million in grants to 175 organizations across Texas, aimed at supporting nearly 40,000 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses. Since its inception in 2009, the fund has channeled more than US$359 million through over 1,600 grants.
