EL PASO, TX – El Paso City International Airport (EPIA) announced the expansion of non-stop flights to San Diego with new year-round service via Southwest Airlines.
The El Paso City Council indicated that this new service was a positive step in further advancing the city’s growth focus and economic recovery strategies.
Flights will begin June 5, 2022, and advance tickets are now on sale through the southwest.com platform.
“The goal of our city and airport has been to recover economically. A good sign of that recovery can be seen in how quickly we are getting direct flights again. Sam Rodriguez and the airport team have been working hard with our office to gather data and engage the airlines to grow our direct flights,” said City Manager Tommy Gonzalez
Also, Gonzalez said the city will continue to work to reduce airline costs to ensure El Paso remains competitive with other markets.
“The recovery of flights and passengers has been impressive at El Paso International Airport. Bringing back this popular leisure destination is a win for our community, and we are thrilled to have it return as a daily service to expand our region’s connectivity, just in time for summer travel,” said Sam Rodriguez, Director of Aviation.
EPIA has consistently performed above the national average in passenger traffic recovery as the nation continues to recover from the impacts of the pandemic. Total passenger traffic for 2021 increased 89.2% compared to 2020.
This is the 27th announcement of new or expanded flights since 2015. The City’s Strategic Plan prioritizes growth in core air transportation activity and expanded air service.
