EL PASO, TX – With an investment of $12.1 million, the City of El Paso will begin construction of the second phase of the Eastside Sports Complex, located in the Upper Eastside.
The City of El Paso announced that the expansion of the sports complex will include eight flat competition fields along with lighting, parking and other amenities. The expansion, aims to expand athletic and recreational opportunities in the community in support of the city’s vision to develop a vibrant regional economy, safe neighborhoods, and cultural and educational options driven by high-performance government.
“The Parks and Recreation Department’s commitment to our youth and adult athletes continues with the start of Phase II of the Eastside Sports Complex. The expansion of additional competition fields will strengthen our city as a destination venue for future tournaments,” said Recreation and Cultural Affairs CEO Ben Fyffe.
The $12.1 million project is funded through a Tax Reinvestment Zone and Public Improvement District. Construction will begin this spring and should be completed in about a year.
Just last April 8, El Paso officials, accompanied by District Five representative Isabel Salcido, led the groundbreaking ceremony at the complex located at 14380 Montwood Drive.
The original construction schedule was modified, as the city postponed capital projects in 2020 in order to weather the global financial uncertainty caused by the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic.
