EL PASO, TX – Beginning April 1 through April 30, El Paso Electric (EPE) residential customers in New Mexico and Texas can take advantage of the opportunity to recycle their old refrigerators, freezers and window air conditioners and receive a $70 payment through EPE’s Appliance Recycling Program.
“We are excited to offer our EPE residential customers in Texas and New Mexico the opportunity to recycle their old appliances and earn some extra cash,” said Araceli Perea, EPE’s Energy Efficiency Supervisor.
Perea added that by participating in the program, customers’ eligible appliances can be picked up for free and recycled responsibly.
“Recycling appliances benefits the environment, and retiring old appliances saves customers money on their electric bill, as they consume more energy and generate more demand on the electric grid,” Perea said.
EPE is working with ARCA Recycling to schedule free, contactless, in-home pickups for residential customers in Texas and New Mexico. The process to take advantage of this opportunity is simple.
To recycle an old appliance, EPE customers must reside in Texas or New Mexico. Two refrigerators and/or freezers are allowed per customer address per year.
Refrigerators and freezers must be of normal household size (10-30 cubic feet) and in working (cooling) order, empty and clean. EPE noted that two window air conditioners will be allowed per household per year.
Also, window air conditioners must be full-size and in good working order.
Although EPE’s Appliance Recycling Program is available to residential customers year-round, the $70 promotional rebate will only be available for a limited time and will expire at the end of April.
Proper recycling of old refrigerators, freezers and window air conditioners is very important for environmental protection, as it keeps hazardous materials out of landfills while helping to transform the energy landscape toward a brighter, cleaner future, the utility company detailed.
