El Paso Electric (EPE) and ev.energy announced the launch of the EV Smart Rewards TX program, an initiative that seeks to optimize electric vehicle charging in Texas through the use of off-peak hours.
The program encourages electric vehicle owners to charge their units during off-peak hours or when the electric grid has more available capacity, avoiding the peak demand hours of 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. in the summer. Through ev.energy’s platform, participants can configure their charging preferences, while the system optimizes the process automatically.
Users will receive notifications about Low Carbon and Demand Response events, allowing them to charge their vehicles when renewable energy is most available or reduce charging at times of high demand.
Program participants can access financial incentives, which include:
Incentives are delivered through PayPal or Venmo.
In addition, the initiative seeks to contribute to the efficient management of the electricity grid by:
The program is being implemented in Texas after a previous experience in New Mexico. Executives from both companies emphasized that this strategy seeks to promote the efficient use of energy and offer economic benefits to electric vehicle users.
