EL PASO, TX – El Paso Electric Company (EPE) issued a request for proposals (RFP) to procure short-term and/or long-term renewable energy resources for its New Mexico customers by 2027 (RFP 2023 NM RPS).
The objective is to obtain cost-effective and reliable renewable electric resources to meet New Mexico’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) requirements. The New Mexico Renewable Energy Act (REA) requires EPE to meet 40% of its retail energy sales in New Mexico with renewable energy resources beginning in 2025, increasing to 50% by 2030.
The utility noted that the application welcomes all forms of renewable energy resources, particularly those that come bundled with their associated Renewable Energy Certificates and attributes defined by the REA.
As part of the New Mexico RPS, EPE has identified the need for near-term and/or long-term resources that will generate approximately 150 thousand megawatt hours per year of additional renewable energy by May 1, 2025, if possible, but no later than May 1, 2027.
“At EPE, we continue to experience a customer base growth rate of two percent year over year, which inevitably leads to an increase in energy usage and customer demand,” shared President and CEO Kelly A. Tomblin.
Prospective bidders have until Friday, November 3, 2023 to file a Notice of Intent to Bid, the company noted.
