EL PASO, TX – The city of El Paso entered the third year of the Covid-19 pandemic with a total of 238,210 confirmed cases and the loss of 3,356 lives, according to the City Council.
In March 2020, the city of El Paso reported its first case of SARS-Co-V-2, prompting a massive and uninterrupted mobilization of resources to prevent residents from becoming infected with the highly respiratory illness.
“El Paso has lost 3,356 members of our community who were family, friends and co-workers. We ask everyone to take a moment to reflect on those we have lost and continue to work to protect our community and help eliminate preventable deaths,” said Public Health Director Angela Mora.
Even as the Covid-19 data show a downward trend, the pandemic continues to affect many people, especially the unvaccinated and the most vulnerable. The Department of Public Health (DPH) continues to urge residents aged 5 years and older to get vaccinated and a booster, as this remains the best defense against the disease.
According to statistics from health authorities, El Paso remains with 1,305 active cases so far; while 233,397 people have recovered from the disease and 77 patients are hospitalized, 26 of them are in intensive care.
Ninety percent of the cases correspond to the Hispanic population, with the group between 20 and 29 years of age being the most affected, concentrating 45.398 percent of those infected, followed by the population between 30 and 39 years of age with 38.637 percent and those between 40 and 49 years of age with 33.532 percent.
So far, 79.6 percent of the population over five years of age has a complete vaccination schedule, while 100.9 percent have at least one dose.
