EL PASO, TX – The city of El Paso and EPWater is hosting a series of community meetings to discuss proposed changes to impact fees, which were implemented in 2009 as a way for growth costs to be paid by developers instead of all utility ratepayers.
Impact fees or fees are assessments levied on new construction to fund the cost of water and wastewater infrastructure required for development.
In addition, impact fees are only levied on the construction of new homes and buildings within specified zones, primarily in new areas of the city.
The City Council reported that municipal staff as well as EPWater staff will be present at these hearings to discuss the history of impact fees, the growth areas where they are charged and the capital improvements that will be funded with the proceeds.
Both the Mayor and the El Paso City Council will hold a public hearing during the regular City Council meeting next Tuesday, April 23, 2024, before voting on the proposed changes to the fees.
The hearings will be held on April 15, 16 and 18. The first will be held at the Don Haskins Recreation Center; the second will be at The Beats Recreation Center; and the last will be at the Northwest Regional Command Center.
