With an investment of US$24 million, the automotive company Elektrokontakt inaugurated a plant in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, their fourth fully-functioning plant in Mexico. The company’s facilities were built at the Parque Industrial Amistad.
Vice president of Operations for Mexico, Luis Carrasco, highlighted the fact that the company currently has four plants, as previously stated, one in the municipality of Sabinas, Coahuila, and the other three in Piedras Negras. “We currently generate 2,000 jobs, but with the new plant that we inaugurated, we will be generating 800 more jobs in the following months,” said the executive of the German-based company.
He stressed that most of the harnesses manufactured in their plants go to the United States, to different automotive companies but, with the new plant, the products will be sent to the city of Silao, Guanajuato, where General Motors is located.
Carrasco commented that Elektrokontakt currently operates in ten countries in Eastern Europe, Africa, China and Mexico, while the corporate headquarters are located in the United States.
