EL PASO, TX – Beginning in June, electric customers in El Paso, Texas and areas of New Mexico will see savings on their monthly bills, according to El Paso Electric (EPE).
The company reported that as part of its commitment to making energy more affordable in the region. From June 1 through September 30, 2023, Texas customers can expect an average savings of $11 per month on their bills.
Likewise, by June 2023, New Mexico customers can expect to see an average savings of $18 on their bills. EPE detailed that in the case of New Mexico, fuel and purchased power costs would be adjusted monthly for customers.
“We are proud to provide our customers with approximately $1 million in savings, much of which has been achieved through our active participation in the Western Energy Imbalance Market,” commented Dave Hawkins, EPE’s Vice President of System Operations and Resource Strategy.
The company detailed that with a focus on affordability and reliability for customers, lower electricity costs were achieved by strategically selling power generated by own resources and tactically purchasing power from other utilities.
During the summer season, the Department of Energy recommends setting your thermostat to 78°F when you are at home and 85°F when you leave the house. It also urges reserving activities that generate heat and humidity (cooking, laundry and dishwashing) for early morning or evening hours.
Closing interior blinds to block sun and heat when there is a temperature rise and consider using a clothesline instead of a dryer are other energy-saving recommendations.
