BAJA CALIFORNIA – Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced an urban improvement program for marginalized neighborhoods near tourist areas, with an investment of US$415 million in 15 cities, including Tijuana and Mexicali.
In this sense, the undersecretary of Tourism in the state of Baja California, Ives Lelevier, expressed that he sees with sympathy this investment, since policies have been insufficient to reduce the backlog of existing basic services in Baja California.
He also said it is an ambitious but important project, as Mexico is the 6th country with more visitors in the world and number fifteen in economic revenue per consumption. The state official stressed that tourism represents 8.8% of Gross Domestic Product at the national level.
