BROWNSVILLE – In view of the upcoming Valentine’s Day celebrations, the federal authority for agriculture in international bridges, as well as Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza (CBP), report that some plants and flower arrangements will not be allowed to access the country.
Elías Rodríguez, CBP spokesman, announced that the elements in charge will inspect floral and fruit arrangements that may be imported into the United States for Valentine’s Day.
“The threat of harmful pests that could be introduced into the country is maintained, so special attention is paid to surveillance at the border,” Rodriguez said.
That is why agricultural specialists are working at ports of entry in all customs to prevent prohibited flower and fruit species from entering the United States, making sure that imports of flowers used in Valentine’s Day bouquets are free of insects and diseases.
Rodriguez said that the work in the ports of entry is permanent, however, when it comes to particular dates, there are reinforced surveillance actions such as this season, Christmas and others.
