TAMAULIPAS – The transformation industry, which includes manufacturing and fabrication in Tamaulipas, reached a record number of formal workers included in the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) during the month of August, becoming the productive activity with the greatest recovery during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The number reaches 310,228 employees, of which 292,956 are part of the permanent workforces, in addition to offering space for 17,332 temporary employees. With this, it is the sector with the largest number of personnel in the entity involved in the installed companies.
Said number exceeds the maximum reached in July 2019 by the state, when it reached 305,214 people hired for work in maquiladoras with greater presence in the border region, particularly in the municipalities of Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo and Matamoros, both by companies from the United States and from Asia and Europe.
In addition, in almost a year and a half of the health emergency, when the number of job positions lost was of 12,577, since June 2020 to date it has doubled to 27,803.
