GKN Aerospace opens new plant in San Diego

SAN DIEGO – GKN Aerospace has opened a new 150,000-square-foot facility in San Diego, California, reinforcing the company’s global repair network and its commitment to sustainable, state-of-the-art MRO solutions.

According to the company, the new facility required a $55 million investment, increasing its capacity to best support the growing aero engine MRO market worldwide.

This significant investment brings the latest automated manufacturing technologies to the business, while underscoring the company’s commitment to customers in North America and meeting the growing demand for MRO in the region.

The facility is located adjacent to GKN Aerospace’s San Diego engine plant and doubles MRO capacity in the region. This expansion will provide advanced overhaul solutions for current and next-generation engine components, including GE LEAP and Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan models, along with legacy platforms.

Equipped with the latest advances in automation and robotics, the San Diego facility will improve product reliability, increase efficiency and reduce lead times for our global partners.

With this expansion, the facility already supports more than 400 customers with overhaul technologies for civil and military aircraft engines.

GKN Aerospace’s current team of 900 employees in San Diego will grow significantly in the coming years, and GKN Aerospace will continue to invest in the development of specialized skills and capabilities.
