HF Sinclair Corporation has formed a strategic joint venture with UPOP Holdings to expand its branded fuel operations across the United States. The new company, Green Trail Fuels, LLC, will include 30 retail fuel sites located in Colorado and New Mexico.
Under the terms of the agreement, HF Sinclair will retain a 50 % non-operating economic interest in the joint venture. The arrangement positions HF Sinclair to supply fuel to the network from its regional refineries, while UPOP will manage the day-to-day operations of the sites.
Company executives say the partnership is designed to accelerate the growth of the Sinclair brand in the Rocky Mountain and Southwestern markets and to leverage operational and logistical synergies with HF Sinclair’s existing refining and midstream infrastructure.
The creation of Green Trail Fuels is part of a broader effort by HF Sinclair to build out its branded retail footprint and capture additional margin opportunities through an expanded network of service stations.
In related corporate developments, HF Sinclair is also undergoing a leadership transition. Its CEO has taken a voluntary leave of absence, and the board has appointed an interim chief executive to guide the company during this period. This change coincides with broader strategic initiatives, including the new retail partnership.
Overall, the joint venture represents a significant step in HF Sinclair’s strategy to strengthen its presence in key regional markets and drive future growth through expanded retail operations.
