Housing Payment Assistance Offered in El Paso

EL PASO, TX – The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) launched a new program to support El Paso homeowners who have fallen behind on their mortgage payments or are at risk of foreclosure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program allows recipients to apply for financial support from the Texas Homeowners Assistance Fund (TXHAF) under the American Recovery Plan Act of 2021.

According to the El Paso City Council, the TXHAF will provide eligible homeowners with grants to pay delinquent mortgage payments and property taxes, insurance and Homeowner’s Association (HOA) dues.

The program will provide up to $40,000 per household for eligible homeowners to pay delinquent mortgage payments, and up to $25,000 per eligible home for delinquent property taxes, insurance and HOA fees.

Homeowners may be eligible for assistance under TXHAF if they meet criteria such as being late on one or more payments such as: mortgage loans; property taxes; property insurance; and HOA dues.

Also, applicants must have household income at or below 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or 100% of the U.S. median income; own and occupy a home in Texas as a primary residence; have experienced a qualifying financial hardship after January 21, 2020, such as loss of income or increased expenses due to the pandemic.

Some of the documents required to access funding are: Official identification; mortgage statement; proof of occupancy or utility bill; income documentation (paystubs).
