ARIZONA – The recent monsoon rains in Arizona can cause future damage as vegetation has grown out of control and this can lead to wildfires.
Places that once looked desert are now full of vegetation, but once all that dries up, it can generate forest fires; For this reason, the Department of Forestry and Fire Management in Arizona is preparing for what could be a highly active season in terms of forest fires, because although the rains reduced the fires, the growth of the vegetation is considered a danger.
Tiffany Davila, head of public information for the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, said that all the humidity in the place is going to disappear and become a kind of fuel, since all the grass like the bushes grows in an accelerated way and in hot seasons the chances of fire increase.
One of the first preventive tasks that will be carried out will be the manual cutting of the vegetation and in some cases, controlled fires will be carried out; It is even planned to ask landowners to start fires on their properties to eliminate weeds and reduce risks.
The official recommended to residents of areas likely to be fires that they remove dead or dry vegetation, keep the grass watered and cut, remove all vegetation that accumulates on roofs and gutters, and remove all flammable material that may be risk of fire.
The rains in recent days have been so intense that they left at least two people dead; One of the most damaged localities was the rural city of Gila Bend, where in recent days Governor Doug Ducey came to bring various support.
