Kia Motors plans to increase its production from 300 000 to 450 000 units per year in a second phase at its plant in the municipality of Pesqueria, stated Seong-Bae Kim, President of the company in Mexico. Along with the manufacturing increase, an investment increase from US$1 billion to US$1.5 billion has also been planned.
Regarding national procurement, the laws of the Free Trade Agreement with North America require Kia to start operations with more than 50% of components of the region, but the company will seek to increase this percentage.
