MATAMOROS – Restaurants, grocery stores and small shops in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, have already gotten rid of Coca-Cola drinks, as a result of last February 15 strike in the facilities of the bottling company Arca Continental.
Pablo Reyna, president of Cámara Nacional de la Industria de Restaurantes y Alimentos Condimentados (Canirac) in Tamaulipas, told to El Financiero newspaper that this Coca-Cola supply problem has been going on only in Matamoros, where there are an average of 1,000 restaurants, of which 200 are members of Canirac.
“95% of the restaurant industry distributed Coca-Cola, we had talks with Pepsi, Barrilitos, Boing, all the other competitive soft drink companies that have been supplying product, but the demand for distribution has exceeded,” Reyna said.
He added that as plan B they have sought to source from Reynosa and Monterrey, but the workers who are unemployed do not allow Coca-Cola trucks to enter Matamoros.
