PHOENIX, AZ – Mayo Clinic has announced an investment of nearly US$1.9 billion to transform its Phoenix campus as part of its “Bold. Forward.” strategy aimed at improving healthcare globally.
The project, dubbed “Bold. Forward. Unbound.” in Arizona, seeks to revolutionize the physical spaces and technology on campus to optimize the patient experience and improve working conditions for staff. This initiative represents Mayo Clinic’s largest investment in the state and reaffirms its leadership in medical innovation.
“Through this transformation, we are merging physical and digital care to deliver better treatments and outcomes for patients,” explained Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., president and CEO of Mayo Clinic. “We are redefining the infrastructure of inpatient and outpatient care to establish a global benchmark healthcare model.”
The expansion calls for 1.2 million square feet of new facilities, including a procedure building, expansion of the Mayo Clinic Specialty Building by five floors, 11 new operating rooms, two patient units with 48 additional beds and integration of advanced technology. In addition, the arrival experience for patients and visitors will be enhanced with a two-level interior promenade connecting the facilities.
Dr. Richard Gray, CEO of Mayo Clinic in Arizona, highlighted the impact of the project: “This investment will transform care in our region and increase clinical space on campus by 60%, allowing us to serve more patients than ever before.
The Arizona initiative is part of a medical expansion program that also encompasses Rochester, Minnesota; Jacksonville, Florida; Mankato, Minnesota; and La Crosse, Wisconsin. Design of the Phoenix expansion is expected to begin this year and be completed in 2031. Companies involved in the first phase of design and construction include McCarthy, Gensler and Arup Group.
