Merissa Mendoza is the new Director of Public Health in Pinal County.

PINAL COUNTY, AZ – Pinal County appointed Merissa Mendoza as Public Health Director, after serving as Interim Director since last February.

Mendoza began her career with Pinal County Public Health nearly 13 years ago, working in the WIC program. She has served as a Nutritionist, Lactation Coordinator, Nutrition Program Supervisor, and Nutrition and Vital Records Division Manager.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Arizona State University and her Master’s degree in Public Administration from Grand Canyon University. She holds the credentials of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

Mendoza was appointed interim director at the urging of outgoing director Dr. Tascha Spears. Her permanent appointment is based on the unwavering support and recommendations of the entire leadership.

“Merissa is an exceptional leader with a passion for public health,” said Deputy County Director MaryEllen Sheppard. “She is a person of the highest ethical character who is respectful, empathetic and consistently and compassionately focused on taking the best possible care of others and our community.”

Mendoza also earned a culinary degree from Scottsdale Culinary Institute, and enjoys baking, reading and spending time with her husband and two children.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as Pinal County Public Health Director,” said Mendoza. “I am committed to working with our community partners to improve the health and well-being of all county residents.”

Pinal County is excited to have Mendoza at the helm of its Public Health Department. Her experience, commitment and passion for public health make her the perfect person for this position.
