SONORA – Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño held a working meeting with the new CEO, Sarah Bairstow, in order to follow up on the development of the project that Mexico Pacific Limited is carrying out in Sonora, with which the Sustainable Energy Plan of the state is being promoted.
During the meeting, continuity was given to the subject of the supply that the gas liquefaction plant in Puerto Libertad will have, as well as the progress made in the process of installing the company in the state.
According to the Government of Sonora, the project contributes to the country’s energy transition by laying the foundations to redefine the region’s energy scenario. It also represents a step forward in the materialization of the largest private foreign energy investment project in Mexico and Sonora.
In August 2023, Mexico Pacific and ConocoPhillips announced the signing of purchase and sale agreements for ConocoPhillips to purchase approximately 2.2 million tons per annum (MTPA) in aggregate of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through trains 1, 2 and 3 from Mexico Pacific’s anchor LNG export facility, Saguaro Energia, located in Puerto Libertad on Mexico’s west coast.
Under the purchase and sale agreements, ConocoPhillips will purchase LNG on board for a period of 20 years. When fully operational, the first phase of the facility will have three trains with a combined capacity of 15 MTPA.
While sales of trains 1 and 2 are already closed, Mexico Pacific said it is committed to providing more LNG supply to meet global energy security and energy transition needs.
