Migrants from Tamaulipas strengthen ties with U.S. residents
TAMAULIPAS – The Tamaulipas Institute for Migrants (ITM) carried out a work tour in Houston, Texas, with the objective of strengthening the ties between Tamaulipas residents in the United States and their state.
The head of the ITM, Juan José Rodríguez Alvarado, met with various groups and leaders of Tamaulipas migrants to inform them of the programs and actions implemented for their benefit and that of their families.
Among the topics discussed was the concern of the Tamaulipas migrant community regarding the anti-immigrant SB4 law recently passed by the Texas Congress. Rodriguez Alvarado informed them of the current status and scope of the law, in addition to advising them on the rights inherent to their immigration status.
In the meeting held with Jerry Garcia and Silvia Treviño, Sheriffs of the cities of Pasadena, Houston and Harris County, Texas, it was agreed that Tamaulipan migrants are agents of development in that country as well as in their places of origin and that the application of the new anti-immigrant measures is unjust.
Also, strong collaboration mechanisms were established with the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston, Texas, so that Tamaulipas residents in that city have access to identity documents, civil certificates, support in the transfer of remains and various services.
Finally, at the request of the “Federación de Migrantes Tamaulipecos en los Estados Unidos”, presided by Jay de León, from Reynosa, Rodríguez Alvarado informed of the possibility of holding a service fair in Houston, Texas, with the participation of various State Government agencies and Financiera para el Bienestar.
