LAS CRUCES, NM – The city of Las Cruces minimum wage will increase from $12.00 to $12.36 an hour effective January 1, 2024, according to the Las Cruces Municipal Code (LCMC).
Ordinance 2726, enacted by the city in 2014, establishes minimum wage, tipped wage and annual increases for Las Cruces. From 2015 to 2019, each year the minimum wage amount was a fixed number, but for 2020 and beyond, both the minimum wage and tipped wage increases are tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), according to the ordinance.
New Mexico’s state minimum wage is also tied to the CPI. In 2024, the state’s minimum wage is scheduled to remain at $12.00 per hour. However, the city of Las Cruces’ minimum wage is higher, so the city will adopt the city’s minimum wage.
The tipped wage calculated by city ordinance has always been higher than the state’s, so that is the one that has been adopted. In 2024, the tipped wage will increase from $4.78 to $4.95 per hour.
With this increase, Las Cruces’ minimum wage will be the highest in the city’s history.
