COAHUILA – Coahuila has 32 Korean companies that supply KIA, which is more than the 22 that Nuevo León has, the entity where the assembly plant is located.
After the Samsong company announced its investment in the entity, José Jorge Ramón Montemayor, undersecretary of Promotion and Strategic Projects, informed that Coahuila has received 32 Korean companies that represent an investment of US$490 million and a generation of 16,800 jobs, all of them suppliers of KIA.
At the same time, the minister of Economy, Jaime Guerra Perez stated that Samsong was the first Korean company that the current state administration paid attention to since January last year. Korean companies continue to arrive, although the boom first came when KIA was installed, however, he added that China should also be strongly encouraged to invest in Mexico since the Asian country has been investing abroad.
The owner and CEO of Samsong, Hyungchang Lee reported that the new Samsong plant will be located at the Amistad Airport Industrial Park; for said investment, other states were evaluated before such as Nuevo Leon, Saltillo and Torreon, as well as Durango and Zacatecas.
