More than US$72,000 awarded to Las Cruces businesses

NEW MEXICO – Eleven New Mexico companies were awarded February Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) funds to support 61 new employees, three paid interns and the training of 38 incumbent workers, announced Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Alicia J. Keyes.

Among the beneficiaries were two companies from the city of Las Cruces, five from Albuquerque, as well as one each in Hobbs, Silver City, Taos and another in Los Alamos.

The strength of JTIP is that it can be used by businesses of different sizes throughout New Mexico, with rural/border businesses receiving a higher percentage of cost reimbursement, infusing dollars into the economy where they are needed most.

In addition, EDD noted that the program also provides a higher percentage award for businesses that offer high-paying jobs, encouraging growth in the sectors that will best provide the jobs of the future. In addition, it allows companies to increase their number of employees gradually, submitting multiple applications to continue to grow at their own pace.

The total amount of funding for February 2022 was US$972,037.41, of which US$72,366 was for companies located in the Borderplex region.

LaSen, Inc. of Las Cruces will have the capacity to serve three apprentices. This company creates biological detection systems for the Department of Defense, and has developed and commercialized an airborne LIDAR pipeline inspection method along with the software necessary for its operation.

LaSen has performed over 350,000 miles of pipeline surveys and detected over 35,000 indications of leaks, saving its customers millions of dollars and preventing thousands of cubic feet of methane from escaping into the atmosphere. The average apprentice salary at this company is US$25.83. The total amount of the prize was US$41,300.

Meanwhile, the company X2nSAT, a full-service satellite network operator will be able to train three workers.

The company has been a leader in machine-to-machine satellite communications for 20 years. They offer a wide variety of broadband and data transmission services, including Internet access, e-mail and cloud data storage. The average salary of the grantees is $23.24, and the Total Award Amount was US$31,066.
