During the Tianguis Turístico 2025, held in Tijuana, Baja California, tourism authorities from Chihuahua and seven other northern states signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of coordinating joint actions to attract visitors for the 2026 World Cup.
The agreement was signed by representatives of the states of Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Sonora, Sinaloa and Chihuahua. Edibray Gómez Gallegos, Secretary of Tourism, signed on behalf of Chihuahua.
The document proposes a regional collaboration to implement tourism promotion strategies before, during and up to two months after the tournament, which will be organized by Mexico, the United States and Canada.
Among the objectives of the memorandum is the joint positioning of the signatory states in national and international markets, as well as the dissemination of activities that highlight the cultural and tourist identity of each entity. It also seeks to take advantage of the global visibility of the event to strengthen Mexico as a tourist destination.
The agreement also contemplates the implementation of sustainable tourism practices, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals established by UN Tourism.
During the signing ceremony, the recent opening of a direct flight between Ciudad Juarez and Monterrey was highlighted as an opportunity to strengthen connectivity between the states of Chihuahua and Nuevo Leon, where some of the World Cup matches will be held.
Also participating in the event were Maricarmen Martínez (Nuevo León), Cristina Amezcua (Coahuila), Elisa Haro (Durango), Yolanda Cepeda (San Luis Potosí), Benjamín Hernández (Tamaulipas), Roberto Gradillas (Sonora) and Mireya Sosa (Sinaloa).
