During the first days of the summer vacation period, Nuevo Laredo recorded the highest influx of Mexican nationals crossing the Tamaulipas border, accounting for 47.3% of the total, according to figures from the National Institute of Migration (INM).
From June 16 to 20, 6,035 Mexican citizens residing abroad entered the country through various border points in the state. Of that total, 2,859 did so through Nuevo Laredo, while Reynosa received 1,556, Matamoros 1,288, and Miguel Alemán 292.
The mayor of Nuevo Laredo, Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal, pointed out that the behavior at the crossings reflects the coordination between federal, state, and municipal agencies through the Héroes Paisanos Program, which operates with the participation of more than 40 institutions. Friday, June 20, was the busiest day, with a total of 1,595 entries recorded.
The Héroes Paisanos Program aims to offer assistance, guidance, and security to those returning to the country during holiday seasons. Local authorities assure that special operations and services are maintained to guarantee a safe experience upon entering the national territory.
