NUEVO LAREDO, TAMPS – With the intention of reviewing the project proposed by the Mexican Government for the reactivation of the passenger train, authorities from both sides of the border met in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, where they analyzed the viability of the plan.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Economy of Tamaulipas, Ninfa Cantú Deándar; Natalia Jasso, Delegate of the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) in Tamaulipas and Dr. Víctor Treviño, Mayor of Laredo, Texas.
The meeting focused on the importance of the project proposed by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum for the region and its potential for economic and social development, not only for the Mexican side, but also for the neighboring city of Laredo, Texas.
Nuevo Laredo Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal noted that the project will be of great benefit to families, workers and businesses across the country, and is a testament to the vision and social sensitivity of the new federal government.
“We will continue to join efforts with the three levels of government to strengthen competitiveness, improve connectivity and transportation infrastructure in our region and throughout Mexico, we are convinced that the passenger train will have a positive impact on the economic and social dynamism of the city,” commented Canturosas.
In addition, the meeting highlighted that Nuevo Laredo has competitive advantages and key infrastructure to be the center of this project, which will contribute significantly to the connectivity and accessibility of the region.
Secretary Cantú Deándar underscored the commitment of the government of Tamaulipas to promote initiatives that benefit the border region and strengthen binational ties.
“We agree to join efforts around this initiative that will not only consolidate this region as the epicenter of binational logistics, but will also provide far-reaching benefits, improving connectivity and accessibility for the inhabitants of this strategic region,” commented Deándar.
The implementation of the Passenger Train not only promises to improve the quality of life in Nuevo Laredo, but also contribute to consolidate the region as a key logistical node for trade and transportation between Mexico and the United States.
According to the Nuevo Laredo City Council, the Mexico City to Nuevo Laredo Passenger Train would be a tool to improve connectivity between two of the country’s main cities and strengthen binational collaboration ties.
Also present at the meeting were the Secretary of Economic Development of the municipality, Rolando Guevara; Carlos de Anda Hernandez, Secretary of Public Works and Victor Treviño Jr., consultant for the City of Laredo.
