NUEVO LEON – The Ministry of Tourism of Nuevo Leon inaugurated the new Los Angeles-Monterrey air route operated by Alaska Airlines from the Monterrey International Airport.
This connection boosts tourism and economic development, and consolidates Nuevo León as a key point of international interconnection, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
In 2024, Monterrey International Airport mobilized more than 13.5 million passengers, positioning itself as the main air hub for northern Mexico and southern Texas. The new route strengthens the options for business travelers and tourists seeking direct connections to the United States.
During the inauguration ceremony, Nuevo Leon’s Secretary of Tourism, Maricarmen Martinez Villarreal, highlighted the strategic importance of this connection, underlining that the new route to Los Angeles will open up significant commercial and cultural opportunities for the state.
Alexis Hernandez, Station Manager for Alaska Airlines, noted that this connection, along with the airline’s recent merger with Hawaiian Airlines, will expand routes between Mexico and the U.S. West Coast, also facilitating connections to Asia and offering more flexibility and benefits to passengers.
The route will be operated daily with E175 aircraft, promoting recreational tourism and the development of commercial relations between the two regions. The event was attended by Melissa Bishop, U.S. Consul General in Monterrey, and Raful Zacarias Ezzat, Monterrey Airport Administrator, who highlighted the role of this connection in Nuevo Leon’s international development strategies.
The inaugural flight took off after the ribbon cutting, symbolizing the commitment of Alaska Airlines, OMA and the Government of Nuevo Leon to position Monterrey as a benchmark for connectivity and tourism development in Mexico.
