PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) announced the launch of its Green Curb program, an initiative that aims to promote sustainable mobility among passengers and carpoolers.
The program will provide carpoolers with a conveniently located pick-up area, with unique signage and markings, to make EV pick-up points easily visible in both terminals. Earlier this summer, Uber announced that it would pass on the savings allocated to the airport to customers by offering them a 40% discount on airport pick-up and drop-off rates when they select Uber electric rides.
“Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is a leader in sustainability, and with the innovative ideas and partnerships we have with Uber and Waymo, we are constantly pushing the envelope to ensure our airport remains at the forefront of all aspects of the passenger experience,” said Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego.
The airport has developed a roadmap to net-zero carbon emissions that identifies the short-, medium- and long-term strategies for Phoenix Sky Harbor to reach the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. This goal is defined by an absolute reduction in carbon emissions of at least 90 percent from the 2010 baseline, with no more than 10 percent of emissions removed through carbon removal technologies.
Since 2010, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has already reduced annual carbon emissions by 34 percent through energy conservation measures and other initiatives despite growth and expansion. Focused on being future-friendly, the airport continues to look for ways to work with its partners to reduce its impact on the environment through collaboration and innovation.
The Green Curb program is one of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s latest sustainability initiatives. The airport has also invested in renewable energy, energy efficiency and other measures to reduce its environmental impact.
