PHOENIX, AZ – The City of Phoenix, Arizona announced that Sky Harbor Airport’s operating areas are being strengthened to meet the high demand for services and visitors expected for Super Bowl LVII.
The City Council reported that the airport is looking forward to welcoming travelers to Arizona for one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year. It also noted that several events in the Valley of the Sun, such as the WM Phoenix Open and the Super Bowl, will make the air terminal very busy.
February 13, following Super Bowl LVII, is expected to be one of the busiest traffic days at Phoenix Sky Harbor, with an anticipated 50% increase.
“Our staff has been working with the airlines, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, law enforcement, our restaurant operators and other partners to ensure we are prepared to welcome visitors arriving for the big game,” said Director of Aviation Services Chad Makovsky.
Due to the increase in visitors to the city, it was recommended to book early if planning to rent a car, as car rentals are expected to increase during the days of activity leading up to and during the Super Bowl and vehicles may be limited for walk-in customers.
If not intending to rent a car, it has been recommended to use Valley Metro Rail to travel between the airport and downtown Phoenix.
The free PHX Sky Train provides an easy connection between all airport terminals and Valley Metro Rail. For more information about the service, it is recommended to visit https://www.valleymetro.org/SBgameplan.
As travel tips for departing passengers, especially on Feb. 13 (the day after the Super Bowl), it is important to remember the 5-4-3-2-1, i.e., check out of the hotel five hours prior to departure; check out rental cars four hours prior to departure; check in at the Metro counter three hours prior to departure; line up at the TSA security checkpoint, two hours prior to departure; and be at the gate one hour prior to departure. If you have a Super Bowl program, it is advisable to place it in your carry-on luggage.
